Transferring a car warranty | Best4Warranty
- 10 Feb 2022
Best4 answers the important question of what happens to your warranty when you sell your car.
A Best4 used vehicle warranty offers valuable protection against mechanical and electrical failure. Not only will we pay for parts and labour charges, but policies can include roadside assistance, recovery and homestart, wear and tear cover and no component contribution charges.
But what is you decide to sell the car you have a warranty on? Does the warranty stay with you or with the car? Is a car warranty transferable when you sell your used car?
Unlike insurance where the driver is insured rather than the vehicle itself, warranty provides cover on the car NOT the driver (this means we need no personal details about the driver). Because of this, the warranty will no longer be yours once you sell the vehicle.
However, when it comes to selling your car, providing no claims have been made and subject to the agreement, you are able to transfer the remaining cover to the new owner.
When transferring your warranty, you must ensure the new owner are a private individual and that the DVLA are notified of the change of ownership to them.
Here are some questions our customers have asked about transferring their warranty?
FAQs
How long do I have to transfer the warranty?
Your application to transfer the cover must be requested within 14 days of the change of ownership.
Who can I transfer the warranty to?
The warranty must be transferred to a private individual. We will not transfer a warranty to any member of the motor trade. You cannot transfer the warranty to another vehicle that you own.
Is there a fee to transfer?
We charge an administration fee of £35 for each transfer. Once this is paid a new Policy Schedule will be issued to the new owner confirming the extent of the warranty remaining and the policy cover.
(Not so) FAQs
What happens in the event of my death?
In the event of your death and subject to our agreement, the cover provided by this policy may be transferred to your spouse or partner.
Your spouse or partner must advise us of the position as soon as is reasonable in all the circumstances, and the vehicle must be registered in their name within 14 days of us transferring the cover.
Upon acceptance by us of any transfer the new vehicle owner will thereafter be deemed as the policyholder and be bound by the terms and conditions of this Policy.
